By now, you've probably heard that Emperor Popetine declared other, non-Catholic religions to be "defective" and not true churches.

I got a good eyeroll and chuckle out of that.  I also got possibly the most ludicrous idea I've ever had, in a career built on ludicrous ideas.  And I hope you'll check it out for what I think will be a good-natured laugh or two.

lolchrist.com.

Please do let me know.  I'll likely update it tomorrow, and every few days thereafter, or whenever I get a good idea.

New Song: "Blog Like It's The End Of The World"

Fri Jun 15, 2007 at 03:59:01 AM PDT

So, we had a little zombie infestation the other day.

No big thing.  Turned out they were vulnerable to cheese dip.  But it was touch-and-go for awhile there.

Anyway, I wrote a song about it, and I thought it might bring a few laughs.  I hope you enjoy it.

(I posted a diary about another song recently, but it got kinda lost.  That was sparked by a particular diary here, and I think you might like that one as well.  Much more serious.)

Song: "Online Ghost"

Sun Jun 03, 2007 at 12:40:12 PM PDT

Last week, georgia10 had a diary which consisted only of a quote of a news story.  It was about soldiers who had gone to Iraq and been killed... but their MySpace pages, and presumably LiveJournals, blogs, etc., were still up on the web, not taken down because of the various companies' policies regarding user accounts.

The story hit me right between the eyes, and I decided to write a song about it.  You can download it for free here.  I'd be very interested in your thoughts on it, and on that situation in general.

You Have Got To Be Freakin' Kidding Me

Fri May 18, 2007 at 06:42:57 PM PDT

Okay, I don't pretend to know anything at all about deep-sea ecology.  But this has got to be bullshit of the first order:

Deep-water oil and natural gas platforms may become be [sic] as beneficial as a federal study has shown shipwrecks to be in creating habitats for undersea plants and animals, the U.S. Minerals Management Service said on Thursday.

"The biological analyses conducted during this investigation concluded that as petroleum exploration and production expands into deeper Gulf water, platforms could potentially provide a habitat for marine life," Lars Herbst, acting MMS Gulf region director, said in a statement.

Could the oceanographic ecology experts help me out here?  Because, to me, this has "oil-industry-paid-for propaganda study" written all over it.

Fred Phelps To Protest Virginia Tech Funerals

Tue Apr 17, 2007 at 11:10:11 AM PDT

I don't even know what to say.  Well, yeah, I do, but it will only be expletives.  Lots and lots of expletives.

WBC [Westboro Baptist Church, at godhatesfags.com] will preach at the funerals of the Virginia Tech students killed on campus during a shooting rampage April 16, 2007. You describe this as monumental horror, but you know nothing of horror -- yet. Your bloody tyrant Bush says he is 'horrified' by it all. You know nothing of horror -- yet. Your true horror is coming. 'They shall also gird themselves with sackloth, and horror shall cover them; and shame shall be upon all faces, and baldness upon all their heads' (Eze. 7:18).

Why did this happen, you ask? It's simple. Your military chose to shoot at the servants of God today, and all they got for their effort was terror. Then, the LORD your God sent a crazed madman to shoot at your children. Was God asleep while this took place? Was He on vacation? Of course not. He willed this to happen to punish you for assailing His servants."

New Song: "Two Guys Kissin' (Ruined My Life)"

Fri Apr 06, 2007 at 07:50:43 AM PDT

Hey, gang!  I know I haven't been around much, just the occasional comment, but that's 'cause I've been working on new music.  And I thought you might get a kick out of my latest.

New Song: "For Us All"

Wed Nov 08, 2006 at 05:16:16 PM PDT

New song, gang.  I was thinking about our INCREDIBLE DAMN VICTORY, and remembering one of my own key thoughts: We have to save the country for everybody.  And we have to get them to understand why we have to do what we have to do.

I think I'm better at that musically than I am in prose or conversation, so I gave it a go... and this is the result.  Please do let me know what you think, as well as any good ideas you've got for convincing Republican supporters we're not the bad guys.

Thank You, Ned

Tue Nov 07, 2006 at 07:31:05 PM PDT

Ned Lamont has conceded the race for the seat still held by Joe Lieberman.

This bums me out a lot, for a number of obvious reasons.  However, we have a whole lot to thank Ned for, not the least of which is [a] showing the country what a real Democratic candidate can look like and [b] making Lieberman show his true colors.

Thank you, sir, for fighting the good fight, and I hope you continue to fight for us and with us.

New Song: "The Here And Now"

Thu Oct 26, 2006 at 12:10:58 PM PDT

New song for this week.  (Warning: kinda long.)

There's been a fair amount in the news the past few weeks about atheism, and about conservative religious movements and their rather complex circumstances, that I thought this might be appropriate.

Basically, it's my attempt to explain to, say, my mother -- goes to church most days, some days more than once, sings in the choir, sometimes as the lead -- what's going through my head every time she brings up God.  While I have sometimes gone off on religion as the most evil thing since sliced Limbaugh, this time I tried very, very hard to be as polite as possible.  I think it works.

A Few Words To The Democrats

Mon Oct 23, 2006 at 03:29:42 PM PDT

I am not a happy Dem right now.

It's not that I have a problem with the campaigns being fought across the country.  Really, it's not that.  There are a lot of good fights being fought, and I'm confident that we've got a superb chance to take back the entire Congress.

But that's nowhere near enough.

I want to say a few things, as a constituent and a supporter and an American, to the Democratic candidates -- and, for that matter, to the Republican candidates.  It won't take long, really, and they may not seem specific... but they're larger points that I feel are far too vital to keep getting lost in all the foofrah.

(More on the other side....)

New Song: Maf54, Where Are You?

Tue Oct 03, 2006 at 03:52:56 PM PDT

The arrangement is brand-new, but the song is, oh, 'bout as old as its subject.  If you'd like the surprise, just download it here.

A New Protest Song (I Hope The First Of Many)

Sat Sep 30, 2006 at 05:58:17 PM PDT

Several days ago, of course, our Constitution was put through a wood chipper.

I bitched and groused about this on my LiveJournal (I do most of my bitching and grousing there; this is my first dKos diary ever, actually).  And a couple of commenters said that, since I'm an indie musician cranking out at least one song a week, why don't I take the lead and start writing more protest songs?

I thought this was a really good idea. (More below the cut....)
