If you're tired of your diary withering away into the small crawlspaces of cyberspace without being noticed by your fellow kossacks, then this is the diary for you. Learn how you can use social media to your benefit, and in making your story go "viral" among thousands of potential readers. How can this be done? You ask.
It's all in place for you, you see. We have social media networking tools built right into the top of our diaries. The Facebook "like" button, the "Share This" button, and the "Twitter" button. Those are the three most important social media networking tools next to the burgeoning Google+ tool.
Those buttons aren't just there to look pretty :-) They're there to share the content of your diary for fellow kossacks. When you click on the Facebook "like" button, this is what shows up on your profile and in your Newsfeed if you have allowed that option:
Pretty cool, huh? Here's what it looks like when you click the "Tweet" button from my end here:
And when you click the "Tweet" button on your Twitter account, that link gets sent out to all of your followers on Twitter. I have over 1,531 followers on Twitter, so that story is likely to be seen by these followers. And if they like that story, they will re-tweet the story by hovering their mouse over my "tweet" and clicking on the "Re-tweet" hyperlink to spread the story to their followers, how many they have. That's one instance of how to make a story go viral on Twitter.
I prefer to use the "Share This" button to spread the word about a diary I think is important and informative for others in my social network to learn about. The "Share This" button allows you the variety of different networks to spread the story to, as you can see in the graphic to the right.
As you can see, there's e-mail for you to e-mail the story to your list of friends and co-workers. You can also post the story on your Tumblr, Blogger, or LinkedIn. If you're a fan of Reddit and Digg, there they are for you to share the story. And Twitter and Facebook is there. In the "Share This" window, I often choose Facebook as an option to share the story. Why?
It's because by clicking on the Facebook button in the "Share This" window, it allows me the option of choosing which people to make my wall post visible, and to customize the wall post about the story. Facebook recently made changes for the better to their privacy options, following upon Google+'s success in doing this. You can share your wall post to your friends, or to family, and exclude certain people from seeing it on Facebook. You can post the wall story on your wall, your Page that you run, on a friend's wall, in a group, or send it as a private e-mail to another person on Facebook.
The more of us that use these social networking tools to publicize a diary, the better off we all will be, because we will be working on making our progressive message go viral within our social networks. Every time you click on one of these buttons at the top of a diary, you are helping fight the right-wing noise machine by spreading the word about the diary.
Don't be afraid to click, tweet, and share! Just keep on spreading the word by clicking away, Kossacks :-)
